5 Reasons You Need to ‘Pity Party’ 🥹

Remember the boundless energy and emotional agility you had as a child?

Pity party one moment. Pure joy the next.

What if allowing ourselves to feel and truly authentically express, was a key to more joy and energy?!

Today, we'll explore how to have a pity party for karma clearing and rewiring our brain back to our original health.

Let's first address any skepticism with five reasons why we should learn to have an authentic and evolved pity party.

What do WE mean by a pity party?

A pity party is time, love and space, for feelings that are hard to feel. It’s allowing ourselves to feel our authentic emotion, and to cry or express however is authentic to us in that moment. And it’s allowing ourselves to hold, to hear and to deeply love and support ourselves.

5 Reasons to Pity Party

1. Emotional release: Allowing yourself to fully feel or experience your emotions can be a powerful tool for releasing pent-up emotions and tension. This can help you let go of negative emotions and promote emotional well-being.

If you are doing something to avoid pain, then pain is running your life. All of your thoughts and feelings will be affected by your fears. ― Michael A. Singer, The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself

2. Boosted immune system: Studies have shown that crying can actually boost your immune system, helping to fight off illness and disease.

😢
Crying is an important safety valve, largely because keeping difficult feelings inside — what psychologists call repressive coping — can be bad for our health. Studies have linked repressive coping with a less resilient immune system, cardiovascular disease, and hypertension, as well as with mental health conditions, including stress, anxiety, and depression. – Leo Newhouse, LICSW, Contributor in Harvard Health Publishing

3. Increased closeness: Crying can actually help bring people closer together. It can encourage support, empathy, and attachment behavior from friends and family.

🏃
While more research is still needed to understand the relationship between crying and social connection, recent studies suggest crying can help bring people closer together. – The social impact of emotional tears. Motivation and Emotion, 40(4), 602–610.

4. Reduced anxiety: Crying and expressing your emotions can help reduce anxiety and promote feelings of calm and relaxation.

🙂
Expressing emotions is believed to reduce anxiety based on research. But it’s from my own experience working with many teenagers over the past 10 years, that I KNOW this to be true. This is especially true for highly compassionate or sensitive individuals. If we do not express our emotions, it accumulates and becomes overwhelming, which we call Anxiety.

5. Increased empathy: Allowing yourself to feel sadness can help you become more empathetic and understanding of others' emotions, as you become more in tune with your own.

🙏
If you had not suffered as you have, there would be no depth to you as a human being, no humility, no compassion. – Eckhart Tolle

So, allowing ourselves to feel and cry is scientifically healthy. Now what?

It's crucial to learn how to have a "pity party" without recycling emotions and instead gain profound positive health and healing benefits.

There are no black-and-white rules for this; just as there is no right way to dance, there is no right way to have a "pity party."

In most cases, I encourage clients to "trust yourself, trust your heart, moment to moment." Additionally, I give all my clients, and have shared thousands of times online, the following advice:

The 4-Steps of Feeling for Healing:

This guide provides a clear container for:

  • Anchoring your pity party in a positive intention of clearing and healing.
  • Ensuring that you release and let go of emotions, rather than recycling them.
  • Helping you to see that all suffering is here to lift you into who you are as Love, the healer, and the observer in your life.
  • Setting you up to receive the kind of clarity, energy and courage that naturally comes through our energy field once we've allowed authentic emotion in a compassionate loving way.
