Perfectionism is a Cultural Obsession
Look around, and you’ll see it everywhere—especially in the polished, carefully crafted lives of Instagram influencers. The message is clear: we prize the illusion of perfection.
But this obsession is doing more harm than good, fueling a widespread mental health crisis.
Today, we’ll explore the deep-seated beliefs that keep us stuck in the pursuit of perfection—and learn a practical, empowering exercise to shift from chasing perfection to embracing our inherent worth.
Brené Brown’s Take on Breaking Free
Perfectionism isn’t about striving for excellence—it’s rooted in shame.
“When we aim for perfection,” Brené Brown explains, “it’s an attempt to shield ourselves from criticism, blame, and rejection by looking, living, and working flawlessly.”
Far from freeing us, it locks us into impossible standards and keeps us from truly thriving.
So, how do we break this cycle?
The antidote lies in vulnerability—being open and authentic—and embracing the truth that you are enough just as you are.
Your Rewiring Beliefs Workout 💪
Master Greater Energy and Enoughness
- At the end of each day simply say: I did enough, and do your best to feel it.
- For any resistance you feel (like maybe you ate too much ice-cream, so you feel like you weren’t healthy or good enough in that way): Let yourself see, that life is hard. Given ALL you have going on, that today was your BEST. Maybe you’ll do better tomorrow. But given all the seen and unseen challenges in your world today, that was ENOUGH.
- Keep reviewing any resistance that pops up, that holds you back from truly feeling like everything you did today was enough. Just do your best, to let yourself off the hook, and to feel that you did your best.
- Complete by telling yourself: I Am Enough. No matter what I did, or didn’t do today, I AM ENOUGH!
